My name is Melissa, I've been working off and on for Donna for the past 4 years (the off and on part is only due to my 2 pregnancies which many of you got to see me "grow" through!). When I first met Donna she had just married the love of her life, Jack, who is equally as amazing as Donna is, but we are getting to that. I noticed right away that she was a determined, focused, and driven business owner and I was excited to be working for someone who had such a passion for their business and community. I learned quickly that Flowers on Broad Street is not only a flower shop, its a family. You can feel it right when you walk through the door. Donna not only knows most of her customers on a first name basis, but cares enough to know about their family, their life, and she even calls them her friends. She enjoys getting to know her brides and grooms, who later grow families of their own and continue to frequent the shop just to see Donna. This business is unique in the sense that we are there for our customers during good times and bad; Weddings, Valentine's Day, Anniversaries, Mother's Day, and in times of sympathy. No matter the occasion, Donna's compassion is comforting. And did I mention how talented she is? You could give her a roll of toilet paper and she'd somehow make it look beautiful! Her work is simply stunning.
About a year into working with Donna, Jack suffered an unthinkable injury which required Donna to be out of the shop for a few months. When we and the community first got the news people were calling the shop non stop asking how they could help. They were not only concerned about the personal well being of Donna and Jack, but also about Flowers on Broad Street. I couldn't believe it. And to this day I'm still amazed by the outpouring of love and support that was shown during such a horrific time. Thankfully, Jack is back on his feet and now helps Donna with the shop more then ever.
I feel lucky to be apart of the Flowers on Broad Street family and to be able to call Donna and Jack my friends. They are two of the most selfless, most kind people I know. I feel so blessed to have them in my life. So, cheers to 20 years of blood, sweat, tears, and insanely beautiful flower creations. May the next 20 be even better!
